Domingo Morales Cedrés : Leather Craftsman
Handbags, belts, wallets, bracelets, sandals (guaracha), carpets (zaleas) are made by a leather craftsman, his name is Domingo Morales Cedars. In his workshop he performs all the processes of tanning animal skins of goat or sheep to make the leather that he uses. That way he can ensures that, whatever the piece he makes, it will endure over time. He was born in Fuerteventura and he learned his craftsman's trade when he was very young by studying under his neighbor the shoemaker. Later he attended a course in footwear, and he continues to collect traditional knowledge from craftsmen whom he has met during his lifetime. He creates, in addition to more traditional pieces of leather, others of more modern design and style. He currently resides in the neighborhood of Zumacal, where he also has his studio. His leather works also can be seen in exhibitions such as the Fiestas de la Manzana in Valleseco, Fiestas in Teror, Christmas Fair in San Telmo, etc.
